Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit,
who is in you, whom you have received from God?
You are not your own; you were bought at a price.
Therefore honor God with your bodies.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Meet Jacqueline V. Carson, a Southern girl transplanted to the suburbs of Chicago, IL, who began her journey into ministry when she opened a women’s only fitness studio, Temple Fitness. In this safe and secure place where women could come to exercise and support each other in their weight-loss journey, she realized that women needed more than just a safe place to come, they needed a family of support. This family of support extended from the gym to the congregations and organizations that these women were a part of. Jacqueline began to speak to groups of these women on health and why it was important, eventually realizing that her passion was intersecting her faith. She is particularly drawn to speaking to congregations, desiring to see God’s people become healthier people. She realized that many people were not taking very good care of the temple that they have been given, as our bodies are referred to in 1 Corinthians 6.
“Many congregations don’t have a health ministry due to lack of resources
or time. Health Ministry in a Box was created to address this issue. It
focuses on the 12 top chronic conditions that impact people. It consists
of Powerpoint presentations, scripture cards, healthy living tips and
actions that can be used for social media, fliers and bulletins. All of
this is ready to print.”
Jacqueline’s authentic style motivates individuals and groups that she speaks to, hoping to encourage them that health is a “moment-to-moment choice, and it’s not about size, numbers, or just the latest craze. Health is the greatest gift we receive daily.” She hopes that Health Ministry in a Box is a tool that congregations around the world will use to begin the journey of getting their congregation healthy or to continue to keep their congregation healthy.
Jaqueline has found that the biggest challenge has been not becoming discouraged when she doesn’t feel like what she is doing is making a difference. But she has been encouraged in her ministry by her sister Angela.
“When I have felt like the work that I am doing is falling on deaf ears,
I hear her voice. “Keep talking, you never know who is listening,
and what impact your message is having.””
Jacqueline’s Advice To You
