Surviving and Thriving

Where are you in this picture? This morning I went out to water my flowers. I walked down the long gravel drive admiring the rocks, the whispering trees and all of God’s Beauty. I noticed that on my huge plum tree, the plums were shriveled up, dried out. The Blackberry bushes were also dried up and of no value. I was watering my yellow hibiscus that I had planted and fertilized. I was so disappointed that it had no blooms with all of the care I had given it. I continued walking the land and noticing little things and...

Strive To Enter Into His Rest

As we go about our daily living, we get caught up in the mundane and the necessary of our lives. You know – start a load of laundry, get breakfast, drive to work, call the insurance company. . . and etc. We have to do the laundry. We have to go to work. We gotta be mom, dad, daughter, and son. Life is full of doing, going and being.  Aren’t you tired from just reading this? We can live in strife and not even realize it. One definition of strife is: “heated, often violent conflict or disagreement”. Another definition is: “contention or competition between rivals”. So your strife may not be because you and your spouse got into a knock down drag out. . . Thank God.  But your strife could be the second definition of competing, like competing with your 2 year old to get into the tub, competing with the broken belt on the car. You get the idea. All of that could be considered strife. What I want to propose to you today is the only scripture that encourages strife. Hebrews 4:11 “Let us therefore strive to enter that rest.” Yes, God wants us to rest. He desires, He yearns, He longs for us to enter into His rest. He wants us to compete with the mundane and the necessary to Rest in Him. Psalm 34:8 “Taste...

Thankful IN The Trial

I have been through some personal storms and trials over the last few months. My mother has been sick and in the hospital sometimes 2 to 3 times in one month. I have had sickness in my own body, going to doctors and being on antibiotics monthly, at times even weekly and in bed a lot, working around my full time job. Then I finally had surgery last week on my sinuses. I also finally allowed myself to fully grieve with weeping & sorrow in December, the passing of my Daddy going to Heaven back in February of last year. Have you ever heard that they as a Christian, you are supposed to be thankful for the trials, to Praise God for what you are going through? I think that in our western culture the Scripture often can be misinterpreted. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. 1 Thessalonians 5:18; James 1:2-4 Did you catch the distinction?  The verse in 1 Thessalonians says that we are to thank God “IN THE TRIAL”,  not “for the trial”. So it’s telling us that even though we may be short...

Psalm 23

In my prayer time this morning I was reminded of Psalm 23, such a beautiful passage. I want to talk today about just the first 3 verses. “THE LORD is my Shepherd: I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” Many times in this Christian walk, we often think of God only in the sense of the God of judgement and reproof and correction. But let’s look closely at these verses- “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall NOT WANT.”  Many people quote a man made quote – “Well, you know, God never said He’d give you what you want, only what you need”. I choose God’s word any day over what a western culture, man-made belief states. Our Heavenly Father has told us right here that He is our Shepherd and that we will shall not want WHEN He is our Shepherd. The 2nd verse says, “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.” WOW! just WOW! Isn’t it so true of our modern lives that we are so busy? He says that He will make us to lie down in green pastures. He’s directly telling us to rest. Then it goes on to...

Your Spiritual Back Up Camera

I was in desperate need of a new car as my current one had 450,000 miles on it. So, I decided that if I was gonna have a new ride, that it was going to be something that I really wanted. It had to be comfortable to ride in, as I drive  all day long for my job. So, I did it.  I got a a 2010 Nissan Murano SL. It has a sunroof and moon roof. Leather  heated seats, XM radio and my single most favorite gadget: the back up camera. Do you know how many garden gnomes, rocks and stobs I have run into in patients’ yards over the years? Well, my husband, the mechanic does. So, last week, I was pulling out of my narrow concrete driveway that has a ditch on both sides. This back up camera is so precise with the tools it provides for accurately backing up. I mean, it has the lines in yellow, green and red to guide and direct me on both sides and in the rear. As I was backing up, I was a little apprehensive, not wanting to really trust it. I thought, “How can I trust this thing? I need to turn around and look for myself.” But I talked myself into just trusting it’s accuracy and knowing it would not guide me into the ditch, but safely onto...
