Bad Attitudes

Sometimes I have a bad attitude.  Maybe you can relate. Some days my bad attitude is because something woke me up at 3 am and I’m cranky.  Other days it’s because my toaster died and I didn’t have anything for breakfast and my house is a mess.  Some days it’s because a student annoyed the tar out of me trying to get an extra credit point. But regardless of why I sometimes have a bad attitude, I shouldn’t.  I shouldn’t take my lack of sleep out on my job, or on my family.  I shouldn’t blame someone else for...

Making The Mundane Matter

Most of us have a day job.  You know, teaching kindergarten or working in a factory.  Maybe you are a stay-at-home-mom or a hair stylist.  Perhaps you have the luxury of working from home for your own business or maybe you work in retail.  Maybe you’re a pharmacist or a doctor or a nurse.  Maybe you work in a daycare.  Maybe you work in a kitchen or at a hotel or a restaurant.  Maybe you have two jobs – or more, just to make ends meet.  Maybe you work night shift, or maybe you work days.  No matter what...

Lead From Where You Are

When I think of leaders in the church, I think of Pastors and Sunday School teachers, Elders and Deacons.  But really, there’s much more to it than that. Leaders aren’t just the people that stand up in front of the church on Sunday mornings.  The people whose faces and names are on the back of the bulletin or the church door.  The musicians whose name everyone knows. You don’t have to stand at the pulpit to be a leader.  You don’t need a microphone to be a leader.  You don’t have to have it all together to be a...

I Don’t Need To Be A Superhero

Superheroes are all the rage today. Wonder Woman.  Spiderman.  Thor.  Iron Man.  Captain America.  Ant-man.  Superman.  Supergirl.  Arrow.  Flash.  Green Lantern. We see these superheroes as brave and bold.  They put their own lives at risk to save others – people they don’t even know.  They dive into burning buildings and fly through the skies.  They stand in front of buses and bullets.  They have powers that make it possible for them to be superhuman.  To be superheroes. Everybody wants to save the world.  Everybody wants to be a superhero. Well, at least I do. I want to be...

Maybe Boldness Is More Than That

Sometimes people think that I’ve got it all together.  That couldn’t be further from the truth. In reality, I’m falling apart.  I’m insecure.  I’m afraid. I’m quick to speak. I’m slow to listen. I’m quick to become angry. I’m barely holding it together.  I see others around me –  preaching the Gospel in far off countries, boldly standing up for Truth in the streets and in churches, giving up the comforts of home to serve in the military, changing their whole lives just for the sake of the Gospel of Christ. And here I am, a measly college chemistry...
